LOVE? AND MARRIAGE (poem 93)
by Vivian Chinelli
It seems you love the marriage of a horse and a carriage.
But I, the horse, want a divorce!
I don’t want to be your slave meant to trot on the pavement.
Or to pull heavy loads, over wet or steep roads.
I breathe in exhaust fumes from morning to night.
The honking, the fright, this just isn’t right!
I hate all the noise that I hear the city.
You seem to not care and that is a pity.
When it’s hot I need water but it’s never enough.
I get very dehydrated. Working is rough.
If I could speak your language, I’d heartily complain that
I’m so worn and tired from cantering in pain.
Please won’t you lobby for electric carriages
and let us out of these one-sided marriages!!!
Because nobody deserves to suffer like this.
Not you.
Not I.
Please care!
Goodbye.
